Is it one of those 100,000 ones? If so, I can't be bothered feeding it.

Apparently all dragons of the Twilight era (released with or after the Night dragon) are on the 100K diet. I haven't seen any exception to this so I think we just have to get used to that. 50K food to reach level 9 then 50K food to clear level 9. The only escape seems to be on earlier Android versions of the game for those players lucky enough to still have older versions to switch to when feeding.
So if you're crafting (or buying) Pearl on iOS, it will eat 100K food. If you're shelling out 1800 gold on Android and have old gameware, only 10K food.

If you bought 100K food with gold, it would run you about 600 gold.
If you spent 1800 gold on food instead of a Pearl egg, you'd get over 300K food.
All things considered, you're still better off scraaping together 100K food for a crafted Pearl than feeding 10K food to a Pearl hatched from an 1800-gold egg.
Of course, if you're buying the egg on iOS, what can I say?
