i clicked expand to see how many maps i had towards the 64 maps i need and it told me i only need four maps to expand. i would have taken a screenshot but i accidentally hit expand.

Not for everyone. Just checked my level 48 island on IOS and it still needs 40 maps to expand. So this lower map amount could be level related. Expansions still cost 1 million.
