Puma - didn't check the cost, but have 4 now. They didn't seem very expensive though.
1 hour, 3 XP, 400 coins (for 4, no upgrades)

I have the Condor and Toucan if I can remember to get the data. They both take a long time to collect.

Puma: 1 hr to collect, coins collected each animal = 200, gold to buy/breed = 15,900, breeding time = 2 days,

oops I believe it's 100 coins collected for each puma (so 400 for a family of 4 like Dragon said)

California Condor (x3): 22 hours, 152 coins, 3 XP
Definitely a slow way to make money, but they are a cool blue-black color

Looking back, the Condors had been toured. 132 for 3, so 44 each per 22 hours. Blah.

Snow owls: 29 gems for the mate, 2 hours, 25 coins, 2 XP
accidentally bought a mystery box somehow... make sure you lock your ipod before putting it in your pocket.
